RFU Launches Long-Term Strategy

RFU Launches Long-Term Strategy

Damian Dixon26 Jan - 14:17

Today marks an important moment for rugby in England!!

Rugby in England is at a defining point. We have a proud heritage, unique values and deep community roots. In recent years we’ve seen real progress: rising participation across many clubs and in many areas, with stabilisation post-Covid; stronger fan engagement; growth in the women’s game; improved performances, and more stable foundations across the system.

These are not isolated successes - together, they show a sport moving forward again.

But we also know the world around us is changing and how people choose to play, volunteer, consume sport, follow teams, and spend their time is shifting fast.

Our strategy faces that reality with confidence and honesty.

At its heart is a clear purpose; to enrich lives and grow rugby for future generations.

And to achieve our purpose, the strategy is built around four connected goals:

Play: getting more people playing rugby and keeping them in the game for longer.
Perform: produce consistently winning England teams, built on world‑leading player welfare and development and strong pathways,
Follow: attracting and inspiring fans through better stories, better experiences and stronger engagement with younger audiences.
Fund: investing sustainably, diversifying revenues and making better use of major assets for the benefit of the whole game.
These goals work together and they will only succeed through unity. The people within rugby are its greatest strength, and we will rely on the dedication of clubs, volunteers, players, partners and supporters across the country.

As part of our strategic priorities therefore, we will make the game easier to administer for the nearly 100,000 volunteers who run the game across England.
