The lunchtime kick off was the Yorkshire Academy v Divisional Select XV game, arguably the most special game of the day. The only non PREM Rugby academy, Yorkshire Academy, taking on a Divisional XV that was made up of players that had progressed through the counties sides to the North/Midlands/London & South East/South West divisions. The Divisional side met in the car park pre-game, the first time they had ever clapped eyes on one another. That they were able to put in a competitive performance at all was remarkable, but also showed the sheer depth of quality and class that exists outside of the academy system. Ultimately though, the academy system won out, and in some style too. Yorkshire Academy are in form, they had won two on the spin arriving here and they played like it, winning 56-33 in a terrific game of rugby that at times almost felt like an NBA All-Star game. A brilliant finish to the campaign for Yorkshire, but hats off to the Divisional side, a superb effort.
